Katie Porter became the most unlikely political celebrity of the Trump era — a bankruptcy law professor who parlayed whiteboard presentations into a national brand. She earned her law degree from Harvard and built an academic career as a consumer bankruptcy scholar at UC Irvine. Porter had no political career before 2018, when she won California's 45th district as part of the blue wave.
