About PowerMap

Our Mission

PowerMap is built on a simple belief: democracy requires transparency. We make political finance data accessible, understandable, and actionable — empowering citizens, journalists, and researchers to follow the money and hold power accountable.

What We Do

  • Map networks of political influence connecting donors, PACs, politicians, and policy outcomes
  • Track dark money flows through shell organizations and 501(c)(4) groups
  • Expose revolving-door relationships between government and lobbying
  • Visualize industry lobbying patterns and their policy impacts
  • Rank billionaire political influence through our proprietary index

Methodology

Our data comes from authoritative public sources and is cross-referenced for accuracy. We combine FEC filings, Senate lobbying disclosures, IRS 990 forms, and FARA registrations to build a comprehensive picture of money in politics.

The Data Project

PowerMap is a project of The Data Project — an initiative dedicated to making public data accessible for democratic accountability. We believe data should be open, visualizations should be clear, and citizens should have the tools to understand who funds their government.
